Microadventure: Schloss Burg

Since I saw the signpost for Schloss Burg (roughly translated as Castle Castle) a couple of years ago, I’ve been wanting to visit this medieval castle with the peculiar name. Today we did!

After a half-hour drive from Cologne to Burg an der Wupper, we started with the short hike A8 and finished its 4.97km in 01:24h (GPX file export), including two short breaks. We rewarded ourselves with lunch at the restaurant Zur schönen Aussicht.

Our last stop was the actual castle and its museum, which—although disturbed by ongoing renovation works—offered informative (and often bilingual) text panels, some very artistic animated short films, and a beautiful tour of the castle keep.

We drove back home with a ton of fresh air in our lungs, a long list of fun facts of the Bergisches Land, and a deep appreciation for the opportunities that Cologne and its surroundings offer us.
