I am currently reading The Joy of x. A Guided Tour of Math, From One to Infinity by Steven Strogatz, which seems to be a best-of his New York Times series The Elements of Math plus bonus content. He describes his book as sitting down with a friend and trying to teach them everything, starting with 1 + 1 = 2 and going as far as we can. I am certainly entertained and while reading, my mind wanders off and comes back with new musings on math.

I’ve been following Campbell Walker and his Youtube channel struthless for a bit over a year now, since I felt mental unease last fall. He has a wonderful sense of humor, tells stories and touches on subjects that are genuinely new to me, and has re-introduced journaling to me, which plays a big part in my reclaimed sense of mental clarity. I am currently reading his book Your Head Is a Houseboat and I love his ability to turn his perception of life and the observations he’s making into (1) hilarious similes and (2) tangible advice.

Jeden zweiten Montag im Monat lädt das noch recht neue und sich im Testbetrieb befindliche Kunsthaus Kalk zum Nachbarschaftsabend. Bei Obst und Ingwertee saßen wir gemütlich zusammen, ließen uns von Rosanna D’Ortana und Marleen Rothaus mehr über das Haus, die Vision und den Akademiebetrieb erklären und quatschten gegen Ende einfach wild drauf los—über Kalk, über Kunst und die Widrigkeiten in einer Stadt wie Köln.

Das PhilharmonieLunch hat nichts mit Essen zu tun. Stattdessen ist mensch eingeladen die halbe Stunde von 12:00 bis 12:30 bei einer Probe in der Kölner Philharmonie kostenfrei zu verbringen. Ein starkes Konzept, von dem ich schon einige Male gehört hatte und heute endlich die Zeit auch mal teilzunehmen.

Da die letzten Tage etwas bewegungsarm waren, „besteige“ ich heute zum dritten Mal den Monte Troodelöh. Das habe ich vor, seit wir Stempelkissen im Haus haben—doch dazu später mehr. Das Wetter ist gerade unter aller Sau, daher sind die meisten Bilder von meiner Erstbesteigung im März 2022. Apropos „besteigen“: das ist typisch kölnischer Humor, der in dieser Notiz zur Anwendung kommt. Denn mit gerade einmal 118 m ist der Monte Troodelöh—was auch ein Wort aus dem Karnevalsjargon sein könnte—keine wirkliche Erhebung, sondern eher eine Stelle am Wegesrand, die auf die nur wenige Meter entfernten, deutlich höheren Kuppen von Bensberg schielen kann. Das ist aber eben nicht mehr Kölle und somit gebührt dem Monte Troodelöh die Ehre, Kölns höchster tektonischer Punkt zu sein.

Der Abend war nicht zu vergleichen mit der Machwerkschau vor einigen Wochen, denn nur einige wenige Räume waren offen. Auf J, A und mich wirkte es eher als ob wir ein recht intimes Treffen der Kölner Design-Bubble entern würden, aber nichtsdestotrotz wurden wir sehr herzlich empfangen und hatten unseren Spaß.

Ich komme gerade von der Quo-vadis-Stadtrevue-Veranstaltung im Bürgerhaus Stollwerck. Ich will voranstellen: Meine Begeisterung und Unterstützung für Kölns bestes lokaljournalistisches Produkt ist ungebrochen. Ich bin sehr gespannt, wie es für die Stadtrevue weitergeht, drücke alle Daumen und will gern bei allen Schritten dabeisein.

Ich lehre Geschichte, damit aus Wissen auch Gewissen wird. Mit diesen Worten entließ uns Historikerin Annika Triller vor wenigen Stunden aus einem Spaziergang durch die Kölner Innenstadt, zu Orten des Aufkeimens, der Vernichtung und des Fortbestehens jüdischen Lebens. Katharina organisierte diese Führung im Rahmen der Reihe Entdecke deine Stadt der ökumenischen Familienwerkstatt Höhenberg-Vingst.

21,94 km in 5:12 h, davon ca. 30 Minuten Futter- und 5 Minuten Pipi-Pause. Damit haben A1, A2, M und ich heute Etappe 1 des Kölnpfads erfolgreich bewandert. Es war eine wunderschöne, sonnige und abwechslungsreiche Tour, entlang der kölschen Riviera in Rodenkirchen und des Weißer Rheinbogens, durch Auenwald und vorbei an Rapsfeldern zum Forstbotanischen Garten und schließlich durch den äußeren Grüngürtel mit Kalscheuer Weiher nach Klettenberg.

E und ich waren heute als „Gesandte“ des KalkSpace beim Orga-Treffen des Trimbornstraßenfestes. Wir wurden von einer super Truppe sehr freundlich aufgenommen und ich bin schon heiß wie Frittenfett auf Ausgabe 3 des Straßenfestes am 31. August 2025.

Nachdem ich gestern zum ersten Mal vom Gremberger Wäldchen und dem wichtigen Aktivismus unter dem Motto Grembi bleibt! gehört habe, musste ich mir heute direkt selber ein Bild machen… Wortwörtlich! Denn schon lange will ich mal meine Game Boy Camera auf meine Field Trips bzw. Microadventures mitnehmen. Die Vorstellung bei Photographie mit 128×112 Pixeln und vier Farben auszukommen reizt mich sehr! Da das Wetter auch noch phänomenal war, hab ich also meinen Analogue Pocket und mein blaues Game-Boy-Camera-Modul eingepackt und bin los.

Ich habe mir heute noch fix eine der letzten kostenlosen Führungen in Kölns Historischem Rathaus gegönnt. Ab Juni kosten die ca. 60-minütigen Rundgänge dann zwischen 3 und 6 Euro, je nach Wochentag und Sprache. Die paar Euronen sind gut investiert—alleine schon um sich im im Renaissance-Stil wiederhergestellten Löwenhof für ein paar Minuten in eine andere Welt zu beamen. Das Photo des Rathausturmes oben habe ich von diesem kleinen Hof aus geschossen. Das andere Renaissance-Juwel—die Rathauslaube mit Balkon, der mensch in Florenz wähnen lässt—ist aktuell wegen der MiQua-Bauarbeiten nicht zu sehen.

We did a museum day today and visited the Iziko South African Museum and the Iziko South African National Gallery. Iziko is isiXhosa for “hearth” and an organization that operates 11 national museums in Cape Town under the label Iziko Museums of South Africa. The two museums we visited are next to each other and a visit can be combined with a stroll through the public park Company’s Garden.

Pre-Christmas season is my time to retrospect, reflect, and reminisce. I didn’t plan on letting my mind wander back as far as November 2012, but I guess that’s what you get for browsing through old hard drives. Back then, I seem to have tried to express my love for minimalist graphic design and coming-of-age movies by learning Inkscape and putting together a project called minimalist_movie_posters; at least that’s the name of the folder I stumbled over. It contained vector graphics I created as a tribute to films that have had a big influence on me.

Das Kernstück meiner KalkKunst-2025-Ausstellung steht und ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis. Vor allem wenn ich daran denke, wie meine ersten Visualisierungs- und Plot-Versuche ausgesehen haben. Ich bin heilfroh, dass ich die Extra-Arbeit investiert habe und jetzt ein Ergebnis präsentieren kann, das sowohl meine These und Botschaft stützt—Schäl Sick ist schick, aber wie viele von diesem markigen Spruch wissen, ist fraglich—und auch für mein Empfinden beim Thema Ästhetik punkten kann.

Der letzte Stammtisch vor der Vernissage von KalkKunst 2025—25. Oktober, 18:00, Abenteuerhallen Kalk—war gleichzeitig mein erster. Bisherige Treffen kollidierten immer mit meinen Meetings im Rahmen des pr05 Grants der Processing Foundation.

Hier das versprochene Update zu meiner Ausbeute und einigen Ausstellenden, bei denen wir besonders viel Zeit am Stand verbacht haben.

Du weißt wahrscheinlich, von welcher Welle ich spreche. Sie sieht ungefähr so aus 🌊. Sollte dir das nicht reichen, führt zum Beispiel das Metropolitan Museum of Art eine sehr schöne hochaufgelöste Public-Domain-Abbildung in ihrem Bestand. Eine omnipräsente Schönheit von Katsushika Hokusai (ausgesprochen: Hock-sei). Mir fiel sie zum Beispiel gestern mal wieder auf der Rückseite des Submodule GB01 auf, als ich gerade vor dem Verleihen eines Game-Boy-Advance-Spiels eine Sicherungskopie meines Spielstandes anlegte.

Ich bin gerade zurück aus Düsseldorf und noch völlig zittrig, so geil war es auf der Between Books mit J! Es war unser erster Besuch bei der zum dritten Mal stattfindenden Indie-Kunstbuch-Messe, aber auf keinen Fall unser letzter. Die Atmosphäre war unglaublich offen und überraschend herzlich, alle Ausstellenden durch die Bank weg freundlich, auskunftsbereit und ehrlich interessiert an Austausch. Es fiel mir leicht, mich wohl und großartig zu fühlen: Kleiner Plausch hier. Ob wir denn auch Künstler seien? —Öhhhh… Büchlein kaufen da. Ja, das hier ist meine Masterarbeit und dann haben wir einen Verlag für Science Fiction aus China gegründet. Mit Kaffeegetränk im Lounge-Bereich philosophieren und unsere neuen Schätze durchblättern. Soll ich mir noch das Buch mit dem Titel »Let’s Become Fungal!« kaufen?

Anlässlich des feministischen Kampftages am kommenden Samstag standen für den KölnTag im Museum Ludwig heute die Künstlerinnen im Mittelpunkt; nicht die etablierten „Dauerbrennerinnen“ wie Paula Modersohn-Becker, sondern eine neue Arbeit für die große Stirnwand im Treppenhaus des Museums von Kresiah Mukwazhi im Rahmen der Schultze Projects, die Arbeiten von Ursula „Spinne“ Schultze-Bluhm und eine weiche Skulptur von Yayoi Kusama.

Das Museum Schnütgen ist so ein schönes Haus: Den imposanten Eingangsbereich teilt es sich mit dem Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, präsentiert seine Mittelalter-Exponante dann aber in der sich nahtlos anschließenden romanischen Cäcilienkirche. Leider interessiert mich das Sujet Mittelalterkunst so gar nicht. „Leider“ weil das Museum viel investiert, um den Besuch interessant zu gestalten; im ersten Raum warten verschiedene Büchlein zum Mitnehmen um den Einstieg in die Thematik zu vereinfachen—mit dem „Kritzelblock“ auch für die Kleinen! Die meisten Ausstellungsstücke stehen frei und man kann sehr nah ran um alle Details zu erfassen. Aber es bleibt dabei—umhauen tut mich die Kunst des Mittelalters nicht.

Völlig zu Recht hat Honoré Daumier seit dem 29. November seine eigene Ausstellung im Wallraf-Richartz-Museum. Passenderweise ist morgen wieder KölnTag 😏 Die Ausstellung geht noch bis 23.03.2025.

Ich habe heute am öffentlichen Kunstspaziergang im Rahmen von KalkKunst 2024 teilgenommen und es war der Hammer! Mein innerer Kreativitätswirbelwind ist mächtig am toben. Es gibt einen zweiten Spaziergang am Samstag, 30.11., um 11:00 und ich kann jedem, der sich ein bisschen für Kunst oder das Kalker Veedel interessiert, wärmstens das Mitschlendern empfehlen.

Eine Ausstellung über das Ausstellen. Klingt so spannend wie eine Handvoll Sand, entpuppte sich für mich am heutigen KölnTag aber als spaßige Zeitreise—eingeleitet durch die Foto-Reihe Menschen im Museum von Barbara Klemm (* 1939). Ein Spiegel daneben macht klar: Hier geht es um die Rezipienten. Keine Kunst ohne Betrachter*in.

I love stree art! It is rough, nonconformist, often spontaneous, and for me the quintessential way of expressing yourself in an urban context—that makes it beautiful for me. Naturally, I had to visit the exhibition/art trade event Straßengold (street gold) at Kulturbunker Mülheim.

I watched my first Adam Elliot movie yesterday—Memoir of a Snail—and now I am enchanted by his life-affirming tales about lovable misfits. Many aspects surrounding his craft are unique and appealing to me: the hand-made claymation, the exceptional work of the voice actors, the Australian accents and cultural jokes, and the clinicalness of how misfortunes are introduced to the plot; the latter being one of the great strengths of the film.

Mein sechster und letzter Cineville-Geschenkabo-Monat geht ganz gemütlich mit zwei Kinofilmen zu Ende.

Das war mal wieder ein wunderbarer Cineville-Monat; mit dabei ein Anwärter auf meinen Film des Jahres und zwei echte Klassiker—alles in den Lichtspielen Kalk.

Ganz so oft wie im ersten Monat habe ich es diesmal nicht ins Kino geschafft. Dafür habe ich mit der Filmpalette vielleicht Kölns niedlichstes Kino für mich entdeckt.

Zu meinem Geburtstag beschenkten mich Katharina und meine Schwiegermama besonders reich—mit einem Abo von Cineville. Für ein halbes Jahr kann ich so oft ich will in ausgewählte Kinos in Deutschland gehen. Ich bin völlig hin und weg!

Endlich war es so weit: Der erste Filmeabend unseres kleines Filmclubs Schöne Filme für schöne Menschen mit Katharina, A1, A2, J, M, L und S bei uns zu Hause. Es war ein fantastischer Abend und ich hoffe sehr, dass daraus eine Tradition wird. Ich liebe Filme und gemeinsames Schauen mit wertvollen Freunden hebt dieses Hobby auf ein völlig neues Level. Ob der Club-Name nur Arbeitstitel ist oder sich durchsetzen wird, werden wir sehen; auf jeden Fall halte ich es bei dem Schönheitsbegriff mit Audrey Hepburn: Ich mag schöne Menschen. Ihr Aussehen ist mir dabei völlig egal.

The wonderful Filmdienst recommended the film In Bed with Michel Gondry in ARTE’s media library today and at first I thought it’s the same film. But no, it is another piece by the same director and of the same year. Nice! Double-nice: Michel Gondry – Do It Yourself! is also available at the media library. Both films can be streamed (and downloaded, if you want) until 2024-12-26.

Mit etwas Verspätung möchte ich heute von der Traumathek in Köln berichten und wie sie mich in ihren Bann gezogen hat.

I watched See the Sound’s festival entry Michel Gondry: Do It Yourself! at Lichtspiele Kalk today; a fun and heartfelt documentary worthy of the marvelous and unique mind it centers. A short glimpse at the film’s teaser text and I knew this was for me: “Punk teenager dreaming of Méliès’ silent film Stop-Motion experiments…” Add to shopping cart!

Today I made some purchases that have been patiently rotting in my wishlist for way too long.

Eine schöne Sache, wenn so ein Konzertgang in den Geburtstag eines wunderbaren Freundes eingebettet ist. Definitiv ein Format, an das ich mich gewöhnen könnte. Am Nachmittag luden J & A zu Ehren von A’s sich divers jährendem 18. Geburtstag ein und versammelten so eine sehr angenehme Meute von Leuten—inklusive Überraschungsgast M, mit dem ich im Februar ja auch schon das Papa-Roach-Konzert bestritten hatte. Dank ihm gibt es heute auch wieder lekker Photos vom Konzert.

Phew, barely made Bandcamp Friday. Thanks, time zones! The title translates to “Everybody knows that it’s gonna be fucking cold in winter” and comes from Pascow’s song Gottes Werk und Teufels Beitrag. Observing how both temperature and public dicourse get more and more frosty here in Germany, this line works in more than one way. Winter is coming, time for punk rock.

I have been thinking about a way to automatically sync my music library whenever I put my Tangara’s SD card into my machine. First I thought that beets’ own move command with the export option -e would be the answer, but unfortunately beets does not ignore already present files but repeatedly copies them with an incremental suffix leading to loads of duplicates. So I turned to rsync which is actually built for tasks like this. Let’s have a look at the command that I put together and dissect it:

Tatsächlich habe ich nur mit J1 und A gerechnet, die zum letzten Song der ersten Band Dead Pioneers ankamen. Wenige Minuten später lief uns L in die Arme und draußen am Merch-Stand dann J2 und S. Punk-Rock-Abend mit lieben und teils lange nicht mehr gesehenen Freunden? Äh, JA, bitte!

By no means do I think that’s a bad thing—there’s a lot of amazing music out there and we are here for it! Why would’t we be? I am a firm believer that the wider the spectrum of your music appreciation, the more bridges you can build to other people. Sometimes it’s just a tad frustating to get that across to said people. And wouldn’t it be nice to have a couple of words readily available to succinctly describe your own taste in music?

Meine Wahrnehmung, dass viele Menschen die Welt brennen sehen wollen, bestärkt mich darin, mehr zu tun. Mehr für Demokratie, mehr für Vielfalt, mehr für Freiheit.

Auch 2016 habe ich mir schon die Nacht um die Ohren geschlagen und konnte meinen Augen nicht trauen. Kann mich einer dunkel-fatalistischen Stimmung nicht verwehren: Am Ende zählt die Wirtschaft, zählen Löhne und die Kosten.

Ich möchte voranstellen, dass ich Meinungen für richtig und wichtig halte. Sie sind die Grundlage für jede Diskussion und Startpunkt jedes Konsenses. Dank des Internets kann fast jeder Mensch auf dem Erdball nicht nur Meinung haben, sondern auch teilen und verbreiten. (Hey! So wie ich hier gerade.) Das ist meinem Blutdruck oft nicht zuträglich—vor allem wenn sich die Beiträge nicht mit meiner Meinung decken—aber ich vertraue bei der Klärung auf bewährte Mittel: Wissenschaft, Grundgesetz und Menschenrechtscharta, die Selbsterkenntnis falschzuliegen, die andere Person als Arschloch abzutun.

I joined Oliver Meißner’s 90-minute guided tour of the NS Documentation Center. In the end, he granted us more more than two hours of his time and led us through the old Gestapo Headquarters to give us an understanding of the Nazi’s rise to power, their cooptation, and their staged people’s community. I am very grateful to Mr. Meißner, who—with the appropriate austerity and severity—left no doubt where he stands politically and what he thinks of the New Right. He was brilliant at dissecting complex circumstances and bringing their cause and consequences into a logical and causal order.

With circles we enter the world of pi, astronomy, and trigonometry. Naturally, creative coders and generative artists are drawn to this shape as well.

The square; four straight lines of equal length and four equal angles. What sounds like the most boring of the quadrilaterals has an almost magical aura. Think about the sides of a dice, the chessboard, or the floor area of the Egyptian pyramids. And in creative coding, too, the square makes for a formidable subject.

Think of a line as the shortest path between two points. In a sense, it is a more complex object than a single point, but also not quite as powerful as shapes, like rectangle or circle. A line doesn’t have an area you can fill with a color. A line counters complex geometric transformations with indulgent indifference. But its stroke can have a thickness, a color, and other properties that can turn heaps of lines into something that outgrows the sum of its parts.

Bevor die 3D-Drucker in den Kölner Bibliotheken benutzt werden können, muss mensch einen zweistündigen Workshop über die Grundlagen des Druckers MakerBot Replicator+ nebst Software MakerBot Print absolvieren. Ich wurde in der Stadtteilbibliothek Rodenkirchen sehr kompetent von Stefan Schiffer geschult, der sichtbar für die Sache brannte. Begeisterte Menschen, die ihre Begeisterung auch noch teilen können, sind toll!

I did it and submitted my procedural Tangram generator (procedural, not random, because I do set and check for some constraints) to PROCJAM 2024. That is more than I achieved last year and I am proud of my little piece of creative coding.

Interesting, how aesthetic merit depends on whether individual tans are visible or just the outlined shape. (Color also helps, to be fair.)

All the bits and pieces are there, really. I just had to refactor some code, debug my isOverlapping method, and render many configurations by drawing onto p5.Graphics buffers rather than the main canvas.

My code needs some clean-up, so that’s what I am going to do. I also want to establish a class that models a configuration and build a static method on the Tan class that implements the Separated Axis Theorem allowing me to test whether two tans overlap each other. The video Convex Polygon Collisions by javidx9 was very helpful to wrap my head around this.

Mit Meredith bin ich sehr schnell vom Kennenlernen zum Philosophieren über Kunst und KI übergegangen. Die von ihm erwähnte School of Machines, Making & Make Believe muss ich mir genauer anschauen. Randgedanke: Warum kommen solche Angebote immer aus Berlin? Ich liebe Berlin, aber diese Omnipräsenz nervt auch etwas.

Laying out tans was fun, but messing with a lot of √2 and π not so much. I need better math and a better API to connect tans and create configurations.

My first task is to model tans, be able to draw tans to the screen, and create hard-coded (as in: place tans with set coordinates on the screen) configurations. In this explorative phase, I am using the p5.js web editor and you can tinker with my code.

I think Jonathan Snook summarized it perfectly when he made Organize around passions, not destinations one of his travel tips. One of my passions is cooking and I try to take a cooking class wherever I go, preferably in a home or small restaurant kitchen. There just is something about cooking classes that allows me to dive deeper into the culture and everyday tales of the people around me which makes a trip to a different country a much more intimate experience.

Seit meinem siebenmonatigen Missverständnis von Job in der Consulting-Branche 2019 und der damit verbundenen Pendelei nach Düsseldorf liege ich Katharina mit der Idee eines Tagesausflugs in ebendiese Stadt in den Ohren. Falls sich hier jemand den Köln/Düsseldorf-Zwist etwas zu sehr zu Herzen nimmt und schon entsetzt nach Luft schnappt: Dich muss ich enttäuschen. Als Wahl-Kölner, aber am Ende des Tages Leipziger Jung, kann ich die schönen Seiten von Düsseldorf ganz entspannt annehmen und habe überdies wenig Interesse daran, diese Quatsch-Fehde weiter zu befeuern. Dafür habe ich mich als Jugendlicher schon genug an Dresden abgearbeitet, denn das schönste an der Landeshauptstadt an der Elbe ist ja bekanntlich der Zug nach Leipzig. Spaß. Zwinker-Smiley!

Wir waren eben doch noch mit zwei Freundinnen im Theater Duisburg zu Die Wut, die bleibt. Ich danach in Berlin zum Geburtstag meines Papas. Und jetzt stehen wir zu zweit an einem Nordseestrand, feiner Sand unter unseren Füßen. Frische 13°C, aber Sonnenschein im Gesicht und eine salzige Brise in der Nase. Zauberhafte Zeiten, in denen wir leben.

Wir sind nach Zwischenlandung in Kairo im Embrace Hotel auf der westlichen Nilseite von Luxor angekommen. Und so beginnen also unsere zwei Wochen durch (das alte) Ägypten. Ein Kindheitstraum wird wahr!

Nachdem ich vor zwei Tagen im Fernverkehr (!) statt der geplanten fünfeinhalb Stunden siebeneinhalb von Köln nach Leipzig brauchte, versuche ich es für den Rückweg heute einfach mit dem Nahverkehr. Deutschland-Ticket-Style! Dauert auch nur achteinhalb Stunden, drei Umstiege in Erfurt, Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe und Hamm. Überschaubar. Und meine Arbeit kann ich auch aus dem Zug heraus erledigen.

Diese Limes-Abende sind die formvollendete Wohlfühlzone für mich. Die letzte Woche war kurz aber intensiv für uns beide, die vier Tage an der Ostsee zu Mamas Jubiläumsgeburtstag passen uns gut rein. Gestern Nachmittag kommen wir nach langer aber kurzweiliger Fahrt in Rostock an. Ich war ewig nicht mehr hier, das letzte Mal im Januar 2020 auf der Durchreise von Warnemünde zurück nach Köln—nach der Beerdigung meiner Oma. Bestes Ostsee-Wetter grüßt uns: Sonne, 18 °C und immer etwas Wind. Herrlich! Meine Eltern erwarten uns am Bahnsteig und nach großem Hallo fahren sie uns zu unserer Unterkunft in Nienhagen. Es geht vorbei an Rostock-Lichtenhagen, an den Sonnenblumen in der Mecklenburger Allee. Was für ein degenerierter Haufen sind wir eigentlich, dass rechtsextreme Verbrechen wie damals heute wieder Konjunktur haben. Ein kurzer Gedankenblitz, der sich während der Fahrt vorbei an Mohnfeldern verliert. Wut und Urlaubsgefühl können in mir koexistieren.

Logseq has been my tool of choice for dumping, connecting, and re-reading notes since 2023-01-07. People call their personal knowledge base Second Brain, Digital Garden, Zettelkasten, or Brain Dump. I call mine Logbook and it plays a vital role in my daily work and general thought process. Logseq is not perfect and in the middle of a huge rebuild, but it combines a unique set of properties into one compelling bundle: it’s open source, privacy-aware, and operates on local Markdown files. (Yes, the huge rebuild aims to turn the underlying data layer into a database, but I got my fingers crossed that plain text files will remain an option. Or that we get a solid text file export.)

Up until a few weeks ago, bookmarking had been a non-issue for me: Add bookmarks to Firefox and let Sync handle the propagation to all my devices. Happy days! Mozilla’s recent changes in Firefox’s Terms of Use and the removal of the query Does Firefox sell your personal data? in their FAQs have sent me on a path to find a new browser. And a more resilient way to track my bookmarks.

I have already collected 11 Gold Skulltulas, so I had to go to Kakariko to check whether I can already cash out. And luckily yes: I got the wallet upgrade and can carry 200 Rupees now.

After meeting Zelda and taking a good look at Ganondorf, I made my way to Kakariko Village. I did not remember it being that creepy—Jeez! Some weird stuff is going on in that town. But I cannot complain: I found two heart pieces, a Hylian Shield, and helped the lady with her Cuccos, earning me my first bottle.

I very much enjoy and value the occasional gaming session, especially now that I am haunted by a protracted cold and what seems to be my first sinusitis. (Fuckin’ hell…) I will survive, but my exploding head and general energy level force me to take non-business hours slower than usual: time otherwise spent out and about lends itself to be spent in front of a gaming device. This state of blissful indolence won’t last forever, though, so I will document my adventures in video games here, in the hope of returning to them in more hectic times and actually finishing them.

Let me set the scene and help you understand how I got here: Running and I have been in a love/hate relationship for the last ten years. The fundamental problem: While super-accessible, it’s utterly boring! I tried a plethora of tools, habit hacks, and audio consumables to convince myself that setting one foot in front of the other as fast as you can is not only not stupid but rather good for your health. It took me until Covid struck to make running a regular habit and it took me until signing up for my first 5K to take some pride in my hard-earned new hobby.

Neben Ostereiermalen mit unserem Patenkind Z, Eltern S+N und Patenonkel T stand heute auch die Namenstaufe für die Seidis auf dem Programm. Die fünf Wattebällchen wohnen jetzt schon fast zwei Wochen bei uns und dank tatsächlich unterschiedlicher Charaktere, Merkmale und jetzt auch Namen können wir sie mittlerweile gut auseinanderhalten und adressieren. Und auch wenn das den Tierchen wahrscheinlich wurscht ist, fühlt sich das für uns nach einem weiteren Meilenstein an.

Woohoooo! Ich habe den 10K-Lauf vom Altstadtlauf Köln in 1:06:53 beendet und bin einfach nur selig gerade.

The Playdate SDK comes with its own compiler pdc. Since leaving Vim to build my code and going back into Vim to make necessary changes is a cumbersome workflow, I started to look into ways of compiling my code inside the editor. Vim offers a couple of solutions for that.

I have been using Vim/Neovim as my editor for two years now, but I haven’t made an effort to dive into the topic that is LSP—Language Server Protocol. Since I also want to get into game development for the Playdate, I figured I’d marry those two topics and see how far I can get making Neovim my Playdate IDE (integrated development environment).
